If you’ve been reading about AI for your business, you’ve encountered a lot of language that sounds impressive but doesn’t tell you much. Here’s a plain-language translation of the five phrases you’ll see most often.

1. “Leverage the power of AI”

Translation: nothing specific. Every AI vendor uses this. Ask: what specific outcome does your product produce, and how do you measure it?

2. “End-to-end AI solution”

Translation: a platform that wants to handle everything. Sometimes genuinely valuable. Often means you’re paying for capabilities you’ll never use. Ask: which specific part of my problem does this solve first?

3. “AI-powered insights”

Translation: charts and reports, usually from data you already have. Insights are only valuable if they lead to action. Ask: what decision would I make differently based on these insights?

4. “No coding required”

Translation: you won’t need to write code, but you will need to invest time in configuration, workflow mapping, and ongoing maintenance. The complexity hasn’t disappeared. It’s been moved to setup and management. Ask: what does onboarding actually involve, and who maintains it afterward?

5. “Scales with your business”

Translation: the price goes up as you grow. That’s not inherently bad, but “scales with your business” is often code for “we’ll charge you more as you get more value.” Ask: what does pricing look like at double my current volume?

The Underlying Point

Vague marketing language protects vendors from being held accountable for outcomes. The antidote is specific questions with specific expected answers before you buy anything.
